I’ve always had an interest in writing but have often put it to one side and found excuses not to focus more time to it or to pursue it more as a pastime – I’ve usually found something else that has taken priority over writing, whether that something else is menial or not.

I really enjoyed creative writing tasks throughout my time at school and some of my English coursework at GCSE level, in particular, received high praise. I’ve had spells writing poetry, but this had tended to be when I’ve not been in a good place mentally and emotionally in my life, so has not generally been something I have felt inclined to share. Similarly, I had a phase of using haiku as a way of getting some of my negative thoughts out of my head but not necessarily into a public domain. Possibly at some point I will share some of these pieces of writing on this site.

I’ve had a long-standing ambition that I’d like to write a novel. Despite a few (often half-hearted) attempts over the years, I’ve never quite been able to turn one of my ideas into a fully fledged story. But I am currently trying again, and will continue to try and fulfil this particular dream.

I did contemplate whether I should attempt enrolling onto a formal creative writing course to aid my writing style and development in this field, however, the closest I reached was to complete a very-much introductory level writing course run via the University of Lincoln, which provided a basic snapshot of what a full degree course might offer.

I hope to share some of my creative writing attempts as this site progresses.
